5 Things that you should never say after seeing your friend’s artwork:

5 Things that you should never say after seeing your friend’s artwork:

The elegance and beauty of art is usually the result of a lot of effort and hard work. Thus when invited to witness a collection of such pieces it is best to keep a few things in mind which will prevent you from been thrown out.

  1. Judge the art on the basis of the artist: It’s always nice to hear something nice about yourself. Just decide the level of niceness on the basis of the knowledge you have of the person. For example if it is a professional or a very passionate artist he or she would not appreciate you straying away from the art. Such as “the brush strokes are almost as elegant as you.” No matter how much you may mean it, it still sounds like a pick up line. It would work on the other blonds in the gallery roaming around with champagne glasses pretending they know what’s going on. Therefore the moral here is “NEVER TRY TO GET LUCKY WITH THE ARTIST UNLESS U’VE GOTTEN HER DRUNK AT A PARTY.”

  1. If you know nothing about art, pretend: What I mean is, while the artist explains his or her work, pretend to understand what they are saying. It probably sounds like Russian to you, still act as if you are comprehending. Limit yourself to comprehend (nod along mindlessly) only. Once you start flaunting your fake artistic knowledge, that’s when your cover will be blown. For example if the artist is talking about two spheres in the painting and how they represent the outer and the inner circle of life etc. and all that you can see in your head are a pair of breasts, try keeping it there. Because no matter how hard you try to bring that interpretation out elegantly, you’ll still be an idiot.

  1. Feel free to comment, just look around first: If at an exhibition of any sort, where the masterpieces around you probably seem like just pieces, keep an eye open for who’s in your company before you voice your thoughts. A comment like “My dog could paint that” would be hilarious for the people you’ve come with. Well for the artist who was unfortunately standing right behind you is very likely to hate you for the rest of his or her life.

  1. One more thing you should make sure you do at your friend’s exhibition is be interested or at least seem interested. If your friend, the artist is talking to you, the worst reaction you could give by far is a yawn. It means that you are clearly bored, un-interested, wondering what you’re doing here, that you’d rather be home on your couch watching TV. And that you think it is a waste of time for you to be here and a waste of effort fro the artist to have come up with all these random brush strokes. Basically be careful, or the next champagne glass might not have just champagne.

  1. Each work of art is different from the other. Similarly every artist is different because the ideas behind each painting are very different. Which is why comparison could be a fatal thing to do. As much as an artist loves to be praised, he or she detests being compared or matched in anyway. Not just artist to artist, comparing one painting with another could also give off the wrong impression. It simply shows that you haven’t understood the thought behind the two paintings and have no idea what their trying to say. You’re just judging them on the basis of pretty colors.

Well there’s a lot more one should keep in mind, for now these five should help you get through the day without wiping off a smile from anyone’s face.
